Erin Theodorou, M.Ed., LPC, ACS, NCC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a certified New Jersey School Counselor. I am also an Approved Clinical Supervisor, providing clinical supervision to Licensed Associate Counselors (LACs) working toward licensure.
My path to counseling was shaped by both professional and personal insight. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science–Global Studies, with a minor in Philosophy, from the University of Delaware. Before entering the mental health field, I worked in the private sector in human resources, paralegal services, and risk management. These experiences deepened my understanding of workplace stress, interpersonal dynamics, and life transitions, and ultimately led me to pursue my passion for helping others through counseling.
I completed my Master’s degree in Professional Counseling at William Paterson University, where I worked within the Special Education and Counseling Department. I have since continued my education extensively, earning an additional 45 graduate-level credits in psychology and mental health–related coursework. I am committed to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in the field in order to provide the highest quality care to my clients.
My clinical experience includes working with adolescents and adults facing anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, behavioral concerns, and difficulties adjusting to life changes. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, including agency work with CarePlus and the Developmental Disabilities Health Partnership (DDHP). I also have experience providing in-home counseling and family therapy, supporting families navigating complex mental health needs.
Much of my work has been in private practice, where I have provided counseling to individuals, couples, and families. I have worked at The Center for Counseling in West Orange and Anew Counseling Services in Oradell, NJ, helping clients address a wide range of concerns, including anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and adjustment-related challenges. For the past several years, I have operated my own private practice, offering both in-person and virtual therapy sessions.
I am trained in crisis intervention and have a strong understanding of family systems and how relationships and environments influence emotional well-being. I work primarily with individuals experiencing mood concerns such as anxiety and depression, stress related to relationships or career challenges, low self-esteem, grief and loss, and major life transitions including separation or divorce. I enjoy working with clients of all ages and backgrounds.
Clients often describe my therapeutic style as warm, supportive, and engaging. I believe that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that meaningful change begins in a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create an inviting space where clients feel comfortable exploring their concerns, gaining insight, and developing practical skills to navigate life’s stressors. I strive to understand life from your perspective and work collaboratively with you to help you move toward greater peace, clarity, and fulfillment.
Finding the right therapist is an important step in the counseling process. I would be happy to connect with you to discuss your goals and see if we may be a good fit.
